There are several ways to make a collar base. The
possibilities are explored below.

| Purchase
a belt in the color of your choice. (If you plan on using the
buckle as a clasp (see "Clasp" tutorials) cut your collar so that the
buckle is attached to one end when you fit it). |

| Purchase a dog collar
in the color of your choice. |

| Purchase a small strip
of leather, faux leather, or other fabric
in the color of your choice. |

Step
1: wrap
your collar base around your neck and
mark on the good
side of the material where the the two ends overlap. From
that mark, measure about 2-3 extra, then cut off the extra material.
