Tails

Introduction

The tail is a fun and essential piece of a CATS costume.  Tails are typically made from drapery cording, yarn, or a lycra braid and tied around the waist with a rope.  Most people enjoy making tails, as they are easy, fairly fast, and not as tedious as other parts of costuming.
What Are My Chioces?

1. Store-bought: You cannot purchase a yarn tail in a store, but thin boas have been used as effective tails in the past.

2. Homemade:
  • Yarn: yarn is by far the most popular method.  Yarn is tied to a base until the tail is thick and full.
  • Faux-Fur: a strip or tube of faux-fur fabric is a fast alternative if you are on a time crunch.
  • Braid: some characters, such as Cassandra, have braided tails.  Authentic tails are made from rolls of dyed or painted nylon/lycra fabric, but braided tails can be created a number of ways.

3. Commission:

You may want to commission an experienced costumer who can make the perfect tail to match your costume!  Commissioned tails cost anywhere from $10.00 - $25.00.
