Alteration

Step 1:  Take your wig out of its package.  It is a wise idea to do this outside, because fur will fly everywhere and settle on everything.

You will notice noticing that your Rubies Cat Hood looks nothing like a CATS wig at this point.  Altering it can be scary for a beginner, but as it begins to take shape the project will become very exciting!

Step 2:  Before you can make any alterations, you’ll need to get rid of all excess fur that seems to be coming out of the wig by the handfuls.  Don't panic; the fur is actually woven into the fabric, so when a machine cuts a ragged edge, the fur has nothing to weave into.  Thus 99% of the loose fur is coming from the edges of the wig.

Step 3:  To remove excess fur, take your wig outside and gently pull the loose tufts of hair from around the border of the wig.  When you have finished, use a fine-tooth comb to gently comb through the entire wig.  Give the wig a gentle shake.  Now nearly all of the excess fur should be removed.

Note:  Every time you make a cut into the hood you will need to repeat this step so that the fur around the newly cut edges is removed.  Each time you will end up with a fairly large pile of white tufts.  This is nothing to worry about.

Step 4:  Lay the hood out flat, fabric-side facing upwards.

Step 5: Locate the fabric seam on the fabric-side of the hood and cut carefully above it, making sure the fur on the reverse side is as out of the way as possible.

Your altered hood will now look like this:

Note: Always save extra pieces.

Step 6:  Put the wig on your head. It will still be too long and drape down your neck.

Step 7:  Bring these two long areas (marked “x” in above photo) around back to the nape of your neck.  Pull one “x” over the other so that the wig is snug against your head.  Once it is comfortable, pin the two flaps together and take the wig off your head.

Step 8:  Turn the wig inside out.  The pins that you placed in the wig during the previous step will now be inside the wig (on the fur-side).  The hole that was at the top of the wig will now be at the bottom, and the forehead dip will now be facing up.   Using your fingers, feel through Flap B and find where Flap A ends underneath (see dotted pink line). Mark this line with a pen.

Step 9:   Place pins along the pen line and remove previously placed pins (on the fur-side of wig).

Step 10: Sew along pin line and remove pins.

Step 11:  Cut off Flab B excess.

Note: Always save extra pieces.
